Stoltz Island is a small island off the northwest coast of the West Antarctic Alexander I Island . It is located 11 km south of Cape Vostok in Lasarev Bay .
United States Navy aerial photographs from 1966 and Landsat photographs from January 1974 were used for mapping purposes by the British Directorate of Overseas Surveys in 1977. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named the island in 1980 after Lieutenant Commander Charles L. Stoltz, staff photographer of the US Navy support units in Antarctica during Operation Deep Freeze in 1970 and 1971.
