Stora Fjäderägg is a Swedish island in the northwest of the archipelago -Inselgruppe Holmöarna in the World Heritage region Kvarken Strait of the Gulf of Bothnia .
The island is 1.8 km long in west-east direction and up to 1.3 km wide. Neighboring to the west are the smaller sister island Lilla Fjäderägg and the main island of the Holmö archipelago . Umeå is a good 20 km to the west as the crow flies.
1850 is a four meters high was lighthouse built its first firing with oil from rapeseed or rapeseed oil was performed. In 1913 it was increased to 13 meters and a chapel was built. Although the waters of the Gulf of Bothnia are not easier to navigate due to the postglacial land elevation , the lighthouse lighting was switched off in summer 2008; shipping is of little importance due to the lack of freedom from ice in winter.
There is a STF Vandrarhem in the lighthouse keeper's house . A bird watching station enables the sighting of migratory birds such as siskins , fitis and bluethroat .
