Storekeeper

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In classic ship operations , Storekeeper was the name given to a function on larger merchant ships ; in land operations it can be compared with a combination of warehouse manager and master .

The storekeeper was usually subordinate to the first engineer , who was responsible for all work in the area of the machine systems . The storekeeper, in turn, instructed the engine keepers (greasers) and cleaners and supervised their work. In the classic ship operation, the engine guards and cleaners arrived in the morning at 06:00 or at 08:00 with the Storekeeper in the machine doors and the machine workshop to work meeting. This is where the work was divided up and the first engineer was there for time-consuming, complicated work, who went on watch from 04:00 to 08:00 . The storekeeper, the engine keeper and the cleaners usually worked on a day-to-day basis, depending on the workload, from 06:00 (08:00) to 17:00 (18:00) and were responsible for all maintenance , overhaul and repair work in the machine area.
