The Storsjøen is a lake in Norwegian Fylke Innlandet . The lake is located in the municipalities of Sør-Odal and Nord-Odal . The lake is divided roughly in the middle by these municipalities. The water is one of the most famous landscapes in the region.

geography

Storsjøen is fed by several small tributaries. Storsjøen is connected to the Glåma river by the small Oppstadåa river . Normally the Oppstadåa forms an outflow from the lake towards Glåma. However, when it rains continuously, the water level of Glåma rises, so that Oppstadåa forms a tributary to Storsjøen. This water has a high content of sand and silt. As a result, there is a long delta at the beginning of Oppstadåa on Storsjøen.

There are numerous islands in the lake (in order of size):

Svennebyholmen
  • Øyen (approx. 2 523 114 m²)
  • Engene (approx. 741 692 m²)
  • Rovøya (81 112 m²)
  • Engelholmen (37 216 m²)
  • Ramsholmen (27 803 m²)
  • Jordfetta (22,400 m²)
  • Svartholmen (20 147 m²)

  • Kjellingholmen (4 195 m²)
  • Viksholmen (3,985 m²)

  • Grøntua i Nord-Odal (2,995 m²)
  • Furuholmen (2,187 m²)

  • Bratten (1,226 m²)
  • Frierholmen (617 m²)
  • Fleskholmen (481 m²)
  • Lomskjæret (40 m²)

There are various settlements around the lake. Gardvik is on the northern tip . Ausvatn is located on the east coast of the lake . In the northeast of the lake are Sagstua and Sand .

Infrastructure

Road 24 runs along Storsjøen to the east. The Fv209 circles the lake in the other directions.

Before a larger road system was built, there was ferry traffic on Storsjøen. Goods and goods were transported between Nord-Odal and Skarnes on the ships "Odølingen" and MS "Storsjø".
