The Strait of Basilan is a natural maritime route through the southern Philippines . It runs between the Zamboanga peninsula and the island of Basilan .
The Strait of Basilan is lined by the cities of Zamboanga City and Isabela City and connects the Sulu Sea with the Gulf of Moro , part of the Celebes Sea .
It is one of the main shipping routes between the Southwest Pacific and the mainland of Southeast and East Asia .
