The Odense Tram , in Danish Odense Sporvej , was a tram company in the Danish city of Odense , which existed from September 9, 1911 to June 30, 1952.
In 2015 it was decided to reintroduce the tram as a light rail , the Odense Letbane . Commissioning is expected in 2020.
history
A tram operated in Odense from 1911 to 1952. It was operated by A / S Odense elektriske Sporvei .
On September 9, 1911, the main line between Fruens Bøge and the Central Station was opened. On October 6th, this line was extended from the main train station to Bülowsvej.
The port line between Flakhaven and the port was commissioned on July 3, 1913. In the same year, this new route from Flakhaven to the corner of Østre Stationsvej / Nørregade was shortened.
In 1919 the Allmänna Svenska Elektriska Aktiebolaget (ASEA) sold its share in the company A / S Odense elektriske Sporvei to the city of Odense.
On November 10, 1923, the main line was extended to Hunderup Skov. The first shutdown took place on March 21, 1926, when the port line between the port and the corner of Buchwaldsgade / Skibhusvej was closed. As a replacement, the Skibhus line to Bøgebjergvej was put into operation on May 30, 1926. In 1928 the main line was relocated and then passed south of the town hall.
Establishment of an O-bus operation
Only 13 years after it was commissioned, the Skibhus line was shut down on July 3, 1939 and replaced by a trolleybus line from August 8, 1939 .
On June 30, 1952, the rest of the operation, which only consisted of the main line, was shut down. The trolleybus line was extended between the main train station and Hunderup Skov as a replacement.
On November 16, 1959, the trolleybus operation was discontinued.
