The Odense Letbane is an ongoing project for a light rail system , the implementation of which in the Danish city of Odense was decided in 2015. Commissioning is expected in 2020.

In principle, it is a reintroduction of the tram service that existed from September 9, 1911 to June 30, 1952.

history

The Odense Light Rail Act was passed by Parliament on February 5th, 2015 and published on February 18th. The impetus for this was a proposal by Mayor Jan Boye in 2008.

Route

The route runs from Tarup in the northwest through the center to Hjallese in the south of the city and serves a total of 26 stops. The railway will mainly run on its own route, but in the city center the tracks will be in the road. The travel time should be 42 minutes. A second route from Odense Zoo in the south-west to Vollsmose in the north-east, using the central section of the first line, is in the preliminary planning phase.

costs

The light rail has a total budget of around three billion crowns .

Expansion plans

The first stage is 14.5 kilometers long. The second stage covers a further 7.8 kilometers and will cost around 1.9 billion crowns. However, the relevant decision and funding are still missing.

Operating program

Initially, every 10 minutes is planned. A maximum speed of 60 km / h is planned, so that the average speed over the entire route will be 20 to 25 km / h. 34,000 passengers are expected on working days, around a million per month.

Time schedule

In December 2009 the consulting firm Cowi published a report on the light rail on behalf of the Odense Municipality. On December 15, 2010, the plans for the light rail system were presented to the Odense City Council. On February 16, 2011, the plans for the light rail were unanimously decided by the city council.

The preparatory work with the laying of the power line and the renovation of the street lighting began in April 2015. The first major construction project, the reinforcement of the Albanibroen, was completed in December 2015. The completion of the expansion project is planned for the end of 2020.
