Bilka A / S is a Danish hypermarket chain within the Salling Group , which includes Bilka, Føtex , Netto and Salling . The Bilka chain consists of 18 branches (2018).

The name Bilka possibly goes back to the founder Herman Salling . During a stay in Germany, he is said to have been won over by the concept of the low-price department stores Bilka ( cheap department store ). According to Hermann Salling himself, the name of his department stores is based on the business idea of ​​setting up hypermarkets with parking spaces on the green field outside the city centers in order to address customers with cars (Danish: bil ): Bil Ka .
