The Lithuanian Criminal Code of September 26, 2000 ( lit. Lietuvos Respublikos baudžiamasis kodeksas , abbreviation LR BK ) is the comprehensive Lithuanian criminal law codification and main source of the Lithuanian criminal law . The offenses ( nusikalstama veika ) under the code are crimes ( nusikaltimas ) and criminal offenses ( baudžiamasis nusižengimas ).

history

The Lithuanian Criminal Code replaced the previous model code of Soviet criminal law (dated June 26, 1961, LTSR baudžiamasis kodeksas ).

The new code was prepared by criminal law scholars from the Faculties of Law at Vilnius University and Mykolas Romeris University . The working group was led by Vytautas Piesliakas .

The code was passed by the Lithuanian Parliament Seimas with Law No. VIII-1968. Other codes of law such as Baudžiamojo proceso kodeksas ( BPK , Criminal Procedure Law) and Bausmių vykdymo kodeksas ( BVK ) were adopted with the same law . All codes came into force on May 1, 2003.

The Commentary of the Criminal Code of Lithuania was drawn up from 2004 to 2010.
