content

After the discovery of magic in 1899, mankind made it usable in all areas of life. But soon the disadvantages of the technical use of magic set in and people who are exposed to it for too long mutate into demons. Even when protective suits are developed against it, there are always incidents with demons, against which the tactical magicians are used. These are specially trained in the fight with magic and wear huge armor for the use of magic.

Nerin Simmons works for the authority responsible for magic and so comes to the missions of tactical magicians again and again, many caused by the terrorist group Oddman. There she meets the unregistered magician Leiot Steinberg, who is accompanied by the girl Kapel Theta. Contrary to the regulations, Simmons asks him to help with an operation. Steinberg is particularly brutal in his missions and therefore has a bad reputation, but is tolerated because of earlier merits. Simmons tries to get him registered because of his abilities. She learns that Kapel is the daughter of a demon who raped her mother and both parents were killed by Steinberg. Kapel stayed with him to get revenge one day. When she finally realizes how Steinberg is already suffering from the burden of his past, she thinks about it.

Many other tactical magicians loathe Steinberg as it ruins their reputation. So also Isaac Hammond, who took up the profession out of reverse for another magician who saved him and his sister. However, when he learns that Steinberg killed this magician, he wants revenge. The boss of his agency wants to take advantage of this, incites Hammond against Steinberg and plans to get rid of the hated competition. At the same time he works secretly with the Oddmen, as he gets more jobs. But when Hammond's sister is killed by a demon and Hammond learns that his boss is in league with the people behind him, he kills him and the terrorists whose hiding place he can find. Now he finally wants to take revenge on Steinberg when he is used against a demon with him. But Hammond himself mutates into a demon and succumbs to Steinberg, who now weighs Hammond's death.

reception

The light novel sold over half a million times in Japan by 2009. But despite the very successful book series, according to the German magazine AnimaniA , the author was unable to translate his story into an anime. The story offers little originality, but rather "fantasy set pieces" known from other dark fantasy works such as Devil May Cry or Fullmetal Alchemist , which are also not well implemented. So be Straitjacket more of a "mixed bag full of something" with moderate dialogues. Only the music and the harmonious use of 3D animations were successful, and the work of the German voice actors was convincing.
