history

Detail view

After Rudolph Michael Schindler had gained valuable experience under the famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright , he began building his first own in the early 1920s. The client for his most famous work was Philipp M. Lovell, after whom the beach house is also named. Planning for the project began in 1925. It was completed just one year later in 1926. To this day, several extensions have been carried out on the structure. The tenant was the German-American architect and planner of Caputh Konrad Wachsmann's Einstein House.

On February 5, 1974, the Lovell Beach House was added to the National Register of Historic Places as a monument .

architecture

The building is designed in the so-called international style . Modern architecture should be regular and modular. The floor plan becomes informal and asymmetrical . The international style is exempt from any jewelry.

The viewer of the beach house particularly catches the eye the structure, which is completely exposed over two floors. Five massive concrete supports ensure that the construction stands securely. The living space is high above the ground. This opens up a wonderful view of the sea from the house.
