Remarks

Similar to Strauss' Engagement Waltzes -Walzer, this waltz is surrounded by many unsolved puzzles. It was probably composed in 1872 during the composer's trip to the USA and is one of the nine works published on the occasion. The White & Goullaud publishing house in Boston published a printed version of the work in 1872. It is not known whether the waltz itself was performed in America. Strangely enough, Strauss never played this work in Vienna and it was not part of the repertoire of his band. It is not even certain whether the waltz in its present form came from Johann Strauss at all. It is entirely possible that an unknown arranger composed the work based on Strauss themes, or that it was created without Johann Strauss' involvement. In any case, the work is today, rightly or wrongly, ascribed to Johann Strauss. One of the few confirmed performance dates of the waltz is May 26, 1897. It was played on the occasion of Queen Vicoria 's 78th birthday at St James's Palace in London. The CD recording mentioned below is based on the orchestral edition published by White & Goullaud in 1872 . The title name is probably derived from the fact that Johann Strauss had to give many autographs during his trip to America.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 7 minutes and 40 seconds. Depending on the musical conception of the conductor, this time can vary by up to about a minute plus or minus.
