Strehlgasse
The Strehlgasse is a street in the old town of Zurich left the Limmat . It leads from Weinplatz in a north-westerly direction to Rennweg .
history
Strehlgasse is one of the oldest streets in the city. It is exceptional in that no house is built at right angles.
Number 8 is the Strehl house , from which the street name is derived. It goes back either to a family name or, more likely, to a profession. In a document from 1288, an Ulrich named Streler is mentioned. A Strelmacher or Strehlmacher manufactured combs for looms , between the teeth of which the warp threads were drawn.
The Swiss entrepreneur and politician Gottlieb Duttweiler (founder of Migros and the National Ring of Independents ) was born in house number 13 on August 15, 1888 .
