Stress ball

Stress ball

A stress ball , also anti-stress ball or squeeze ball, is a malleable piece of play equipment with a diameter of usually no more than 7 cm that is pressed by the hand in order to relieve stress and muscle tension or to train the muscles of the hand.

In a study for the Federal Institute for Sports Science , sports psychologist Jürgen Beckmann from the Technical University of Munich found that squeezing a stress ball relieves stress because the manual diversionary maneuver releases mental blocks. A stress ball is also included as a helpful tool in the start-up package for non-smoking from the Federal Ministry of Health .

Regardless of the name, stress balls exist in various forms. Stress balls are popular promotional gifts not only as part of customer loyalty measures , but also from health insurance companies. Stress balls are usually made of polyurethane foam, but they also come as a rubber or fabric skin filled with gel. Stress balls are popular handicraft items. In the self-construction, a balloon is filled with baking powder and thus functions as a stress ball.
