The Strigel Museum is a museum for art, culture and history in the Antonierhaus in Memmingen in Upper Swabia in Bavaria . It is dedicated to the art of painting and sculpture by the Memmingen artist family Strigel .

History and collection

The Strigel Museum was founded in 1996. The collection was previously part of the city ​​museum in the Hermansbau . The museum illuminates the work of the late medieval artist family Strigel and their circle. The focus of the exhibition is made up of works by Bernhard Strigel (around 1460–1528), court painter to Emperor Maximian I. In addition to an introduction to the political and artistic significance of the painter, Bernhard Strigel is honored as a portrait and altar painter. The highlights of the museum are the three king altar and several high-quality loans from the Sparkassenstiftung Memmingen-Mindelheim. Joseph Kiermeier-Debre headed the Strigel Museum until 2011, which was replaced by Axel Lapp in November 2012 .
