String Driven Thing

String Driven Thing is a Scottish folk rock band that existed from 1969 to 1975 and has been performing again since 1991.

history

String Driven Thing was founded in 1969 by the couple Pauline and Chris Adams as a trio with John Mannion. In 1970 they released their debut album, String Driven Thing .

In 1972 they got a contract with Charisma Records . Meanwhile a quartet with Graham Smith and Colin Wilson - Mannion dropped out in 1972 - they performed at the Reading Festival and recorded their first album for Charisma, which was also simply called String Driven Thing . The album received good reviews. The band played as opening act for Genesis in New York in late 1972 .

The next album The Machine That Cried they recorded in 1973 with a fifth band member, drummer Billy "The Kid" Fairley. Despite good reviews, the album only sold slowly. There were some line-up changes, and in 1974 the Adams couple left the band. Two more albums were recorded with replacement musicians, then the group disbanded in 1975.

Since 1991 String Driven Thing has been performing again with Chris and Pauline Adams and various accompanying musicians. In 2007, Moments of Truth was their first studio album in more than 30 years.

Bassist Colin Wilson died in 2013. Founding member and singer Chris Adams died on October 7, 2016.
