Strongylida (from the Greek strongylos 'round') is an order of roundworms . Characteristic for the order is the bell-like mating pouch ( Bursa copulatrix ) at the rear end of male individuals, which contains the anus and the copulatory organ. The mating pouch is formed by dorsal, lateral and ventral cuticle enlargements (so-called flaps), which are supported by muscle processes (rays). It is used to fix the females during copulation. Males and females have a mouth capsule, usually toothed at the base.

The development from egg to third larva takes place in the outside world. The species-rich order contains numerous medically important parasites of the gastrointestinal tract and the lungs . It is divided into four superfamilies:
