Struse (ship type)

Struse is an old Central European type of sailing ship and boat. During the Hanseatic period , the Struse was mainly used on the Daugava but also in Sweden for the transport of moisture-sensitive cargo such as B. Grain used. In order to protect the cargo from moisture, the deck was sealed with a layer of clay . The Struse by two large was controlled belt ( rudder ). The Struse was about 15 to 20 m long and could load up to 36 loads of cargo. The crew usually consisted of five to ten men.
