Stuart Franklin

Stuart Franklin (born July 16, 1956 in London ) is a British photojournalist .

Life

Stuart Franklin studied photography at West Surrey College of Art and Design and received a PhD in geography from the University of Oxford . From 1980 to 1985 he worked as a correspondent for the Sygma agency in Paris. Since 1990 he has been a member of Magnum Photos , which he chaired from 2006 to 2009. Since 1990 he has shot more than twenty reportages for National Geographic .

During the massacre at Tian'anmen Square in 1989, Franklin photographed the demonstrator, later known as Tank Man , who was stopping the line of tanks. With this photo, Franklin won third prize in the Current Reporting category in the Press Photo of the Year election .
