Student residence at the old police headquarters in Darmstadt
The Altes Police Headquarters student residence is a student residence in Darmstadt .
Architecture and history
The building was built in 1869 as a “charitable institution” by the “Alicestiftung” and was then still on the ground of the Bessungen community, which was once independent from Darmstadt .
The building of the former "Idiotenanstalt", which consists of one main wing and two side wings, belongs stylistically to the period of late classicism . The two-storey buildings have a plastered facade and tile-covered gable roofs .
Until the inauguration of the new police headquarters in "Klappacher Feld" in 1992, the former institution was the official seat of the Darmstadt police chief from 1945 .
In the 1990s the building was converted into a student residence.
The student residence represents architecture typical of the time.
Monument protection
The student dormitory was placed under monument protection as a typical example of the architecture of the 1860s in Darmstadt .
Others
The oak and acacia grove is a natural monument behind the student residence .
