Studia Mesopotamica. Yearbook for ancient oriental history and culture ( StMes for short ) is a yearbook founded and published in Münster by Manfried Dietrich , Kai Metzler and Hans Neumann in 2014.

The Studia Mesopotamica (StMes) have been published annually by Ugarit-Verlag in Münster / Westf. Since 2014 . and devote themselves in scientific treatises to topics of the history, culture, languages ​​and art of the ancient Orient from the 3rd millennium BC. Until the turn of the ages ( Sumer and Akkad , Babylonia and Assyria , Northern Syria , Elam and Iran ). In addition, the yearbook is open to investigations into the effects of ancient oriental cultural development on the environment and on posterity (up to the end of the Sassanid period ) as well as their research ( history of science ).

The annual volume should appear in June, in time for the International Congress for Assyriology and Near Eastern Archeology. An average of 400 pages is provided for its length, but it remains flexible in principle and is based on the contributions recorded by July of that year.

The contributions should be written in one of the three conference languages ​​German, English or French and, with a variable length, reflect an internationally recognized high scientific standard. In doing so, they are primarily addressing the scholars of the ancient Near East ( ancient Near Eastern philology , Near Eastern archeology ). At the same time, however, they should arouse the interest of neighboring sciences in Ancient Near Eastern Studies and provide an impetus to recognize the importance of ancient Near Eastern monuments for Semitic Studies , Biblical Studies , Asia Minor Studies , Iranian Studies , Egyptology and Ancient Arabic Studies .
