The Study Society for Combined Transport eV (SGKV) is a non-profit association for the promotion of combined transport (KV) and efficient transport based in Berlin . With members from science and practice, it forms a communication and knowledge platform for everyone who uses, researches and develops the CT.

history

The SGKV was founded in 1928 against the background of the advent of truck technology in long-distance traffic. On the one hand, the interests of long-distance rail freight transport , which had dominated until then, should be better articulated to politicians and the public; on the other hand, the SGKV initially also actively researched small containers for transhipment between rail and road, the function of the rail for long-distance transport and the distribution function of the truck to optimize. For this purpose it maintained a research facility. However, the active research facilities were quickly put into military service in the 1930s because they were of interest for supplies. After the war years, in which the SGKV was no longer run, it was re-established on December 9, 1948.

Principles of the SGKV

In terms of a neutral and open contact point for the concerns of the KV, the association has committed itself to eight principles:

  • Guarantee scientific objectivity - strengthen KV through neutrality
  • Develop infrastructure - planning and developing the infrastructure for CT

  • Making information available - knowledge transfer between politics, business and science
  • Initiate research - further development and strengthening of KV through practical and targeted research

Tasks of the association

The SGKV sees itself as an independent association with the purpose of uniting the various advantages of the modes of transport and the interests of your stakeholders in a sustainable transport system. As a higher-level platform, it helps on a scientific basis to handle future freight transports in an environmentally friendly , efficient and sustainable manner. The focus is on business-related needs research, national and international standard preparation and the representation of the interests of the KV in national, intergovernmental and supranational regulations. Among other things, the SGKV advises the specialist department of the Federal Ministry of Transport ( Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure ). The office based in Berlin's Westhafen can fall back on the know-how of more than 80 members of the industry. The focus of the scientific work of the SGKV is the analysis and development of solution approaches and trends in the field of combined transport. This includes both technological and operational organizational developments, as well as market developments in the national and international environment. In this context, the appraisal of funding applications for CT terminals for the German and Swiss ( Federal Office of Transport ) transport ministries and the subordinate authorities by the SGKV should be emphasized. The SGKV is also active as an advisory institution for the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure in questions of combined transport and general developments in the field of intermodal transport and organizes the annual Terminal Day, where terminal operators and related actors are informed about news in the industry and have the opportunity to exchange ideas.
