Technomathematics

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The collective term techno- mathematics , technical mathematics or engineering mathematics is understood to mean a course of study that is located between classic mathematics studies and engineering .

Education

As a course of study , it should convey a basic understanding of mathematics, including the associated theory, as well as an introduction to areas of application of mathematics ( natural sciences , engineering, computer science , etc.). The course requires an interest in formal and logical ways of thinking and in the abstraction and analysis of very different problems.

motivation

The idea of the course is to train the mathematician as a conversation partner of the engineer in the research and development departments of the industry. Today, many prototypes of new developments are initially simulated virtually in the computer before they are actually built. The mathematician must learn to understand the technician so that this is possible without any problems in a practical cooperation in a research and development department . Therefore, the study of technical mathematics is structured in such a way that, in addition to a thorough education in mathematics, a technical subject (e.g. electrical engineering or mechanical engineering ) as well as specific parts of computer science or scientific computing should be studied.
