The stool interest was an annual tax which until the 19th century had to be paid mainly by home weavers , but also by other craftsmen, to the respective landlord. He caused unrest several times and was one of the reasons for the Silesian weavers' uprising .

The amount of the stool fee in home weaving was based on the type and number of looms or knitting looms owned and the resulting earnings. For example, the interest in the villages under Zittau's rule was two thalers for a simple loom and six thalers for a damask loom .
