SuS Oberaden

The SuS Oberaden is a sports club in Bergkamen with around 1,600 members. The registered association "Spiel und Sport" Oberaden was brought into being by the football department in August 1921. At the beginning of the 1960s, when the judo department was founded, the SuS developed from a pure soccer club to a large club. In the 1980s, the club played three seasons in the 2nd handball Bundesliga .

Today there are football, judo, athletics, tennis, table tennis, handball, volleyball, skiing, as well as indoor and water aerobics departments.

The Römerberg Stadium was inaugurated in 1953 and consisted of a grass and ash pitch. In 2004 the end of the Tennenplatz came, for which a new artificial turf pitch and a club house (2002) were built. Both places are equipped with floodlights.

On August 29, 1953, the new Römerberg Stadium was inaugurated and on the same day the A-youth of SuS Oberaden won a 3-3 draw at the relay championships against the youth team of FC Schalke 04. The sporting heights came in the years 1958 to 1963, when the first team of the green-whites was active in the national league.

The football department includes three sections: senior football, youth football and old men.

The senior football division is currently run by three teams: the 1st team plays in the district league A, the 2nd team and the 3rd team belong to the district league C.

Judo Department

The judo department was founded in 1962 as an independent association. It has been affiliated with the SuS Oberaden since 1963. At the beginning of 1964, the judo department with 24 members was registered with the North Rhine-Westphalian Judo Association (NWJV).

Athletics Department

The athletics department was founded in 1965.

Table tennis department

On October 16, 1969 the table tennis department was founded. The department currently has around 100 members.

Tennis Department

Founded in 1964 as an independent association, it joined the SuS Oberaden in 1969. The department currently has around 150 members.

Handball department

Founding year: 1977
One of the greatest successes for SuS Oberaden came in the 80s, when the SuS was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga with its handball department and stayed in this class for three years until financial difficulties made it impossible to remain in the second highest division . The first handball team is currently playing in the association league. The reserve team is represented in the district league. Then there are the third and fourth teams who play in the district classes of the Hellweg district. The best-known players from Oberaden are the former Kiel Bundesliga player Michael Menzel and the national goalkeeper Nikolas Katsigiannis . There are currently around 300 active members in the handball department. The pupils play their home games in the Römerberg sports hall.

Volleyball department

Ski department

The ski department was founded in 1983. The department currently has around 50 members.

Cycling department

The department was disbanded.

Indoor and aqua aerobics department

On July 1, 2014, the indoor and water aerobics department was founded. The department currently has around 74 members.
