Subbass (sound engineering)
In sound engineering, sub-bass is the frequency range within the bass, which ranges from around 60 Hz to the smallest audible frequencies around 20 Hz. These frequencies can be felt more than heard by the listener - reproduced via appropriately strong loudspeakers, with the sub-bass reproduction taking place via loudspeakers with a correspondingly deep frequency range or an additional subwoofer . Basslines that are part of the sub-bass are mainly used in dance music, for example in genres such as deep house , drum & bass , trap or dubstep , in order to provide the songs with a very powerful foundation.
The term "subbass" can also be found in connection with 16 'and 32' foot registers of an organ. However, the lowest notes of the 32 'register are almost no longer perceived as a tone, but rather as a slight vibration.
