Suixiju yinshipu

The Suixiju yinshipu ( Chinese : 随 息 居 饮食 谱; Pinyin : Suíxījū yǐnshípǔ; " Dietetics Manual from the Suixi Residence ") by the dietitian and doctor Wang Shixiong王士雄 (1808–1867?) Is an important source on the history of Chinese food - and drinking culture and especially the Chinese dietetics in the time of the Qing Dynasty .

About 370 foods are listed there. The book was published in one volume (juan) in 1861.

author

The author comes from the city of Haining海宁 in the province of Zhejiang , he later lived in Hangzhou and Shanghai . Suixi zi (随 息 子) was one of his nicknames ( hao ), his age- old name was: Wang Mengying (王孟英). A collection of five medical works named after his study, Qianzhai, was published in Shanghai in 1914 (?) Under the title Wangshi Qianzhai yishu wuzhong (王氏 潜 斋 医书 五种). Note on the book title

Wang Shixiong himself referred to his place of residence as “Suixi ju” (随 息 居) . The word "suíxī 随 息" is explained in the Han-De yixue da cidian (Chinese-German dictionary of medicine) as follows: "mentally following one's own breathing - a process in Qigong in which one follows one's own breath for concentration of thoughts and it feels. "

Old prints and new editions

The book was first printed in Shanghai in 1861. It is contained in the culinary book series Zhongguo pengren guji congkan by the publishing house Zhongguo shangye chubanshe , Beijing: Zhongguo shangye chubanshe 1985, commented and explained by Zhou Sanjin (周三 金).
