Suiev Workers' Club (1931)

The Sujew Workers ' Club ( Russian Клуб имени Зуева Klub imeni Sujewa ) is a former workers' club in Moscow . It was built from 1927 to 1929 based on designs by the architect Ilya Golossov . It is one of the most important works of constructivist architecture. There is a foyer with 850 seats in the building.

The building differs from many other buildings of Constructivism because its shape is not really based on functional and constructive conditions, but primarily on aesthetic ones. Golossow was significantly less strict in adhering to functional design than other architects in the OSA , of which he was, however, also a member. His distance from the more radical constructivists can also be seen in his early membership in a separate working group at INChUK .

The building is slightly changed today. The open cubes (right in the picture) have been replaced by windows, and the long window front (left in the picture) has been bricked up. As a result, the building has lost its dynamism. However, the distinctive cylinder has remained unchanged to this day.
