The Suji Bashi Kabuto is a helmet from Japan that was worn by samurai with their armor ( yoroi ).

description

The Suji Bashi Kabuto is usually made of iron . It is counted among the multi-plate helmets and is available in three slightly different versions (Suji Bashi Kabuto, Koboshi Bashi Kabuto and Hari Bashi Kabuto ). It consists of up to 120 individual metal plates. The metal plates are shaped like a piece of cake and are placed side by side to form the helmet shell. The dome of this type of helmet is higher than that of other types of helmets. The ribs or ridges that delimit the individual helmet plates are typical of this helmet shape. The difference to other multi- plate helmets is that the normally clearly visible fastening rivets of the plates are filed flat . A kind of head (Japanese: Tehen-No-Kanamono) is attached to the top of the Kabuto and serves as a fastening for the entire plates. The additional decoration of the helmets can vary greatly. Generally, a side shield (to be on the helmets Jap. Fukigaeshi), a neck guard (Jap. Shikoro), a crest (Jap. Maedate ) and a fastening tape (Jap. Shinobi-O-Noh) attached in order to fix the helmet on the head. The face masks (Japanese Menpo ) were often worn with this type of helmet . The helmets were often painted in different colors in Japan. This was used for decoration, but also to protect the metal of the helmet from the elements .
