Sumsi

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The bee Sumsi is a comic advertising character of the Raiffeisen banks in Germany , Austria , Switzerland , Italy , Belgium and Luxembourg. It is intended as a figure of identification for young savers up to the age of 12. Rights holder is the agency AMI Communication , which also publishes the international magazine of the same name for European cooperative banks .

birth

The figure of the Sparbiene was invented by the Swabian graphic artist Egon Kingerter in the late 1960s . Since the drafts did not meet with sufficient approval when they were first drafted in 1968, Sumsi disappeared into the desk drawer. In 1974, Peter Höftmann, who later became editor-in-chief of the AMI Communication agency, rediscovered the little bee and presented it to the Austrian and German Raiffeisen banks. This time the bee was able to convince, especially since other banks already had a child figure.

magazine

In 1978 the first comic booklet, the Sumsi-Magazin and the Sumsi-Post, appeared in Austria with six issues a year, shortly afterwards it was switched to twelve issues. The magazine is still produced centrally in Stuttgart - in three languages: German, Italian and French - and it is drawn in Barcelona . Since Egon Kingerter had had a fatal accident in 1972, five different artists have now designed the versions of the Sumsi: However, she still has the red gloves and shoes. Today she only changes the headgear depending on the occasion.

The magazine has been modernized in such a way that young people up to 14 should also feel addressed. Sumsi has had a website on Facebook since 2010 .

Merchandising

In addition, Sumsi is used by the banks on money boxes , stationery and various children's events. Some banks also offer special children's savings days, the Sumsi savings days. As on World Savings Day, there are small gifts for the young savers who come to the bank with their Sumsi savings books.
