Sun Industry Standards Source License

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The SISSL ( S un I ndustry S tandards S ource L icense ) is a free software license by the company Sun Microsystems . It was recognized as a free software license by the Open Source Initiative (OSI).

This license mainly relates to the XML standard and the APIs used for OpenOffice.org . The license states that anything can be done with the code licensed under it, as long as you maintain these two standards. Otherwise the changes must be made public.

On September 2, 2005, Sun announced that it would neither use the SISSL itself nor recommend it to others. OpenOffice.org decided not to use this license in the future either.

The best known user of OpenOffice.org code based on the SISSL license is IBM , who use the SISSL-licensed code for their IBM Workplace software.
