The Sundsvallsbron is a steel bridge that the Sundsvallsfjärden in the Swedish town of Sundsvall spans. The combined pedestrian, bicycle and road bridge on the east coast of the country was built when the European route 4 was re- routed, which also acts as a bypass to relieve the city of Sundsvall and shorten the route by 2.3 kilometers. With a length of 2109 meters, it is the third longest bridge in Sweden and the second longest motorway bridge in the country after the Öresund Bridge . The steel parts of the bridge were made in Bavaria and preassembled in Stettin , Poland into sections weighing up to 2500 tons.

In 2016, the bridge was awarded a “European steel bridge award” as the best European steel bridge.

Key data

The longest span of the 2109 meter long bridge is 170 meters. The nine water sections have spans of 88 to 170 meters. The steel bridge rests on steel “pier disks”, which are mounted on ten concrete pillars and supported with steel struts. The clear height is 33 meters.

In addition to the four-lane motorway, the bridge has a four-meter section for cyclists and pedestrians.
