Sunita Chaudhary

Sunita Chaudhary is Delhi's first female auto rickshaw driver among 55,000 male colleagues.

Raised in a village near Meerut in the state of Uttar Pradesh and married there at the age of 12, she fled pregnant to an orphanage in Delhi after being mistreated and attempted murder at the age of 14. Their child, who was born there two months later, died. The following years she worked as a cleaning lady and in a health center. After they had taken to the hospital as a passenger of an autorickshaw an injured person from the street, she had the idea of himself as a small train to work -Fahrerin.

After many bureaucratic difficulties, she received her license and initially drove a rented rickshaw, for which she had to spend three quarters of her daily earnings. A loan and grant program in 2010 enabled her to purchase her own vehicle. A driving school founded by her should give other women the same opportunity to earn money.

In 2003 she ran for the Parliament ( Vidhan Sabha ) of Delhi, 2012 for the election for Vice President of India and 2014 for the election for Lok Sabha .
