Sunrise Resort State Park is a state park in the US state of Connecticut in the area of the community of East Haddam . Originally the site belonged to a resort . The 143 acre property was purchased by the state in 2009 for $ 3.2 million.

history

The site was formerly known as Elm Camp (1916), Ted Hilton's Hideaway , Frank Davis Resort and finally Sunrise Resort . It served as a commercial recreational facility for a hundred years until the state acquired the property from the Johnson family in 2009 and added additional land. In 2013 the park was closed again as dilapidated buildings had to be removed.

geography

The acquisition closed a gap between the Silvio O. Conte National Fish and Wildlife Refuge in the west and Machimoodus State Park in the south and east. The Salmon River borders the park to the west. 1.4 km of its bank are therefore under protection and available to the public.

Freetime activities

The park offers opportunities for swimming, hiking, picnicking, and horse riding.
