The Suntory Hall ( Japanese サ ン ト リ ー ホ ー ル , Santorī Hōru ) is a concert hall in the Akasaka district of Minato in Tokyo . It is one of the world's most renowned concert halls and is financed by the Japanese beverage manufacturer Suntory .

Construction began in the late 1970s and opened for concerts in October 1986. It was the first concert hall in Tokyo to be used exclusively for this purpose. The architect was Shōichi Sano, and Minoru Nagata was responsible for the acoustics. The building has a floor area of 2909 m². In line with the Berlin Philharmonic, there are also rows of seats behind the stage, but far fewer seats than in the Berlin Philharmonic are acoustically unfavorable places to the side and behind the stage. The layout is a compromise between the arena (Berliner Philharmonie) and the classic shoebox ( Musikverein Wien , Boston Symphony Hall , Concertgebouw Amsterdam ).

The main hall has 2006 seats. In this hall there is a 250 m² stage and an organ from the Austrian company Rieger Orgelbau with 74 registers and 5,898 pipes . The second hall, named Blue Rose ( ブ ル ー ロ ー ズ , Burū Rōzu ) has 384 to 432 seats.
