Sunya beat

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sunya Beat is a German progressive rock band.

history

The band was founded in 1996 by the Cologne guitarist and producer Axel Heilhecker and the Berlin percussionist Harald Grosskopf . From 1998 it was expanded by the programmer Steve Baltes. Several instrumental albums produced by Axel Heilhecker have been released that combine elements of electronic krautrock from the seventies with contemporary crossover (music) . On the first album, Sunya Beat Harald Grosskopf's ethnic drums (Djembe, Darbouka, self-made "trash drums") and Axel Heilhecker's atmospheric sound carpets and solo excursions on electric and acoustic guitars are in the foreground. Grosskopf's musical history in Berlin Ash Ra Tempel , Klaus Schulze and Heilhecker's training with jazz trumpeter Don Cherry , as well as the relationship to the Cologne scene around Can , Rosko Gee and "Unknown Cases" find expression here. From the 2nd album Delhi Slide , the sound spectrum was expanded in terms of sound and rhythm by Steve Baltes electronics.

The debut album Sunya Beat and also the second album Delhi Slide were released on the Think Progressive label and distributed by EFA . The third album "Comin 'Soon" was recorded live at the Burg-Herzberg-Festival , where the band made their debut and played as a headliner several times . It was published as a double vinyl and CD by "Herzberg-Verlag" and by Heilheckers Verlag Phonokultur .

There were several collaborations with the light artist Mischa Kuball in the form of live settings for installations by Kuball. In addition to Sunya Beat, the three musicians also released albums under their own names. The cooperation between Heilhecker and Grosskopf continues. Since 2010 there have been joint appearances under the name Synthesist in Europe, the USA and South America.
