Super R-Type is a shoot 'em up that was released in 1991 as one of the first titles for the Super Nintendo . It is a continuation of the arcade game R-Type , whereby elements from R-Type II are also taken up.

Gameplay

The Bydo Empire and its mutated aliens strikes back. The player's task is to use his R-9 spaceship to save mankind and to repel the attackers. The weapons can be upgraded using power-ups . The aim of the game is to achieve the highest possible high score in addition to playing through all seven levels including the end bosses .

Overall, the game has three levels of difficulty and each has different endings.

publication

In March 2008, the game was re-released for the Wii . It was removed from the Virtual Console at the end of March 2012 .

reception

Overall, the title received average reviews. A much criticized point was the rather poor utilization of the hardware , since the game often stutters. The controls and the sound, on the other hand, were perceived as better:

  • Play Time 10/92: 69% (graphics 75%, sound 50%)
  • Total! 10/96: 2- (graphic 3+, sound 1-)
  • Video Games 3/91: 62% (graphics 70%, sound 72%)
