Daniël "Dany" Sebastiaan Tuijnman (born April 16, 1915 in Middelburg , province of Zeeland ; † April 25, 1992 in Driebergen , province of Utrecht ) was a Dutch chemist and politician of the Volkspartij voor Vrijheid en Democratie (VVD), who was a member of the Second Chamber of the States General and from 1977 to 1981 Van Agt I was Minister of Transport and Water Management in the Cabinet . Life

Daniël "Dany" Sebastiaan Tuijnman, who after the untimely death of his mother in 1919 became a half-orphan at the age of four, graduated from the Wageningen Agricultural University (Landbouw Hogeschool Wageningen) with a bachelor's degree in agricultural sciences and a master's degree in engineering . After he worked for a dairy company between 1942 and 1945, he acted as general secretary of the Dutch Society for Agriculture HML (Hollandsche Maatschappij van Landbouw) between 1946 and 1973 . On June 5, 1963, he became a member of the Second Chamber of the States General (Tweede Kamer der Staten-Generaal) for the Volkspartij voor Vrijheid en Democratie (VVD), which he had joined as a member in 1950, and was a member of this until December 19, 1977 . As a member of the Second Chamber, he was, among other things, spokesman for the VVD parliamentary group on agriculture and also dealt with questions of environmental health , fisheries and matters relating to the royal court. As a representative of Hans Wiegel , he also acted temporarily as deputy chairman of the VVD parliamentary group.

On December 19, 1977 he was appointed Minister for Transport and Water Management (Minister van Verkeer en Waterstaat) in the Van Agt I cabinet and held this ministerial office until September 11, 1981. After Pieter Beelaerts van Blokland left the government he was also Minister for Housing and Regional Planning between September 1 and 11, 1981 (Minister van Volkshuisvesting en Ruimtelijke Ordening) .

As Minister of Transport and Water Management, he promoted numerous measures of the national railway company Nederlandse Spoorwegen . During his term of office, among other things, construction began on the Weesp – Lelystad railway line , the decision to build the Willemsspoortunnel in Rotterdam and the introduction of the Nationale Strippenkaart , the transport ticket for local public transport . For his services, Dany Tuijnman was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of the Dutch Lion on June 5, 1975 and on October 26, 1981 as Commander of the Order of Orange-Nassau . His daughter Elisabeth Tuijnman emerged from his 1942 marriage to Hendrika Tichelman, who died in 1989.
