Hans Wiegel (born July 16, 1941 in Amsterdam ) is a Dutch politician of the Volkspartij voor Vrijheid en Democratie (VVD), who was a member of the Second Chamber of the States General and who was chairman of the VVD between 1971 and 1982 due to his on the middle class and skilled workers oriented politics could improve the election results of the VVD and especially the politics of the cabinet of Prime Minister Joop den Uyl from 1973 to 1977 sharply criticized. After attending the public Potgieter elementary school in Amsterdam, Wiegel attended the municipal high school in Hilversum between 1953 and July 1959 and then began studying law in the Netherlands at the University of Amsterdam in September 1959 , which he did not graduate. At the same time he began studying political science at the University of Amsterdam in 1959 , he graduated in 1965 with the candidate examination.

He began his political engagement in the VVD youth organization JOVD (Jongeren Organizatie Vrijheid en Democratie) and was chairman of its local association 't Gooi between 1962 and 1963. At the same time he was a member of the main board of the JOVD from 1962 to 1965 and vice-chairman of the JOVD in 1965, before he was chairman of the JOVD between November 6, 1965 and October 29, 1966. Wiegel, who joined the Volkspartij voor Vrijheid en Democratie (VVD) on January 1, 1963, was a member of the VVD's main board from 1966 to 1977.

On April 18, 1967 Wiegel was elected for the first time as a member of the Second Chamber of the States General and was a member of it until December 19, 1977.

As the successor to Molly Geertsema , Wiegel became chairman (politics, unfortunately) of the VVD on July 7, 1971 and held this position until he was replaced by Ed Nijpels on April 20, 1982. On August 25, 1981 he was again a member of the Second Chamber of the States General and was a member of this until May 1, 1982. In 1981 he was again a member of the main board of the VVD. At the same time he was again chairman of the VVD parliamentary group in the second chamber between August 27, 1981 and April 20, 1982. After leaving the government, he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of the Dutch Lion on October 26, 1981 . On May 14, 1982 he became an honorary member of the VVD.

As the successor to Hedzer Rijpstra Wiegel was appointed Commissioner of the Queen (Commissaris van de Koningin) of the province of Friesland on June 16, 1982 and remained in this post until February 1, 1994. His successor was Loek Hermans . For his services as the Queen's Commissioner, Wiegel was appointed Commander of the Order of Orange-Nassau on April 28, 1989 .

Chairman of the ZN and member of the First Chamber

Subsequently, from February 1, 1994 to January 1, 1995, he was chairman of the interest group of the health insurance companies KLOZ ( Kontaktorgaan Landelijke Organizaties van Ziektekostenverzekaars) and then from January 1, 1995 to February 1, 2012 of the merger of KLOZ and VNZ ( Vereniging van Nederlandse Zorgverzekeraars) created the new interest group ZN (Zorgverzekeraars Nederland) . For his services as chairman of the ZN, Wiegel was also appointed Grand Officer of the Order of Orange-Nassau on January 20, 1994 .

In addition, Wiegel became a member of the First Chamber of the States General for the VVD on June 13, 1995, which was a member until April 1, 2000.

Wiegel was married twice. His marriage to Jacqueline “Pien” Frederiks produced a son and a daughter. The second marriage to Marianne Frederiks remained childless.
