Supernæ

Supernæ ( Latin : from above) is a papal bull dated May 5, 1514, with which Pope Leo X. declared that the cardinals should immediately follow the Pope in their rank .

He hereby clarified the position of the cardinals as superiors and names them as advisors and employees. Their most important privilege, however, is that they exercise the right to elect a pope . With this bull, the Pope strengthened the cardinals' office.
