Supralibros (from Latin supra "on" and libros "books", Sg. And Pl.), Also Superexlibris , is the name given to the coat of arms or monogram with which the possession of a book was identified. In contrast to the bookplate , which is inside the book, a supralibros is attached to the outside of the book cover .

Supralibros, usually supplemented by the name of the owner, were attached by blind pressing on the book cover or sometimes on the spine . Like bookplates, they are an expression of the claim to ownership and pride in ownership and, in addition to noting ownership, also served as decoration. They were created during the Renaissance with the advent of large private libraries .

Supralibros are an important tool in binding research . Books that have one are also usually viewed as provenance copies, which are books that come from a famous private library.
