Sur les toits ( German  on the roofs ) is a French short film by Georges Méliès from 1897.

action

Two thieves sneak over the roofs who want to break into a lady. After you step on her balcony, throw it over the parapet and climb into the apartment. A gendarme sneaked after them and tried to stop them. However, it gets stuck in an open window while one thief escapes with the loot. The other thief fixes the gendarme in his predicament with a rope, then takes off his boots and throws them from the roof before he also fled. The gendarme tries to cut the rope with his saber while the scene fades out.

Background information

The film was released in America under the title On the Roof . A painted evening sky with some roofs of Paris serves as the backdrop. In the foreground of the backdrop is a small part of the house with a sloping roof and balcony, which was used entirely for the film.
