The surf magazine (own name surf ) is a sports magazine that has been published by Delius Klasing Verlag since 1977 . According to its own information, it is the largest windsurfing magazine in the world. The magazine was founded by Uli Stanciu , who also launched the sister magazine Bike , Europe's first and largest mountain bike magazine, in 1989 . The surf magazine has been the organizer of the surf festival since 2002. From 2002 to 2009 the festival took place on the Baltic Sea island of Fehmarn. From 2010 to 2014 the festival was a guest in Neustadt / Pelzerhaken. In 2015 the festival returned to Fehmarn and takes place every year over the Ascension weekend. From the very beginning, the concept of the windsurfing event was a combination of a trade fair and the opportunity to try out the latest surfing material for free and to experience international surfing professionals up close. Since 2013 the surf special SUP has been published in May for fans of the young trend sport Stand Up Paddling . Another SUP digital edition will follow in July. Windsurfing is considered the "mother of all fun sports" and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2017. Even today, the sport has lost none of its fascination and attraction. Every year around 35,000 new surfers are added (according to VDWS - Association of German Water Sports Schools eV). For surfing newcomers, the magazine set up its own section on surf-magazin.de in 2015 with the Surf-Aufsteigerwelt and once a year publishes a 24-page newcomer special, which surf students get for free after their surf course in almost all surf schools.

Edition development

The publisher has not reported sales figures to the IVW since 2013 . Today Surf sells around 21,000 issues and has a reach of 120,000 readers (publisher information).
