Susanna Kubelka von Hermanitz (born September 1942 in Linz ) is an Austrian writer . She has lived in Paris since 1981 .

Career

After graduating from high school, she was a temporary elementary school teacher, then studied English and received her doctorate in 1977. phil. with a thesis on the way women are portrayed in 18th century English novels. Long stays in France and Australia preceded her work as an editor for the Viennese daily newspaper Die Presse . Kubelka was once briefly married to an Englishman and also lived in London for four years, but is now divorced.

Kubelka has been a committed vegetarian since 1984 because of her love for animals.

With her first book - the brilliantly researched non-fiction book Endlich über40 (1980) - she achieved a worldwide success. Encouraging, intelligent and cheerful novels, most of which are set in the exile in Paris, followed, of which the most famous Ophelia learns to swim and the youngest is Das sprengelte Mieder .
