Susanne Handschmann

Susanne "Susi" Handschmann (born March 2, 1959 ) is an Austrian former ice dancer and one of the most successful athletes in this sport in Austrian sports history. Together with her brother Peter Handschmann , she was Austrian ice dance champion six times from 1975 to 1980 and twice (1976, 1980) participant in the Winter Olympics . The two were known to the public as the Handschmann siblings .

Athletic career

The Handschmann siblings won their first Austrian championship title in 1975. At the European Figure Skating Championships in Copenhagen in 1975 they reached 16th place. In the next season, the Handschmanns improved to 11th place at the European Figure Skating Championships in 1976 in Geneva . In February 1976 she wanted to take part in the Winter Olympics with her brother for the first time , but they withdrew their participation.

The Handschmann siblings developed the then new ice dance "Austrian Waltz" and performed it for the first time in 1979 in Vienna.
