Susanoo
Susanoo ( Japanese ス サ ノ オ , Kojiki : 〔〔建〕 速〕 須 佐 之 男 命 、 須 佐 能 男 命 ((Take-) haya) -Susanoo no mikoto , after Karl Florenz : 'Brave-faster-impetuous man'; Nihonshoki : 〔神 / 速〕 素 戔 嗚 尊 (Kamu- / Haya-) Susanoo no mikoto ), also outdated Susanowo , is in Shintō the Kami (German: deity) of the wind and the sea and the brother of the sun goddess Amaterasu and the moon god Tsukuyomi no Mikoto .
birth
Susanoo is the son of Izanagi and was born when he washed the impurities from his nose after a visit to the underworld. There are other versions in Japanese mythology that he was born together with Amaterasu and Tsukuyomi shortly before Izanami's death .
character
Susanoo had a very stormy character because his favorite pastime was playing pranks on others. However, one of the pranks he played on his sister Amaterasu went too far and he was banished from heaven.
But it also has good qualities. For example, he ensures that epidemics do not spread, and he is also generally regarded as the patron god of agriculture. Furthermore, the legend says that he taught people the first culture and founded civilization .
Even so, only a few shrines are dedicated to him in Japan. His main shrine is the large shrine of Izumo ( Shimane prefecture ), where he is worshiped together with the deity Ōkuninushi ( 大 国 主 , "Lord of the great land").
