Sini Maaria Suvi- Anne Siimes (born June 1, 1963 in Helsinki ) is a former Finnish politician of the left-wing alliance .

Before Siimes went into politics, she held brief teaching positions at the University of Helsinki and at Kauppakorkeakoulu . She planned to work as a scientist or researcher in economics. She began her political career as a local politician in the municipality of Pohja in southern Finland. In 1995 she became deputy party leader, in 1998 chairwoman of the Left Alliance. A year later she was also elected to the Finnish parliament for the first time. In 1998/99 she was Minister of Culture in the Lipponen I cabinet .

In 2006 she resigned from the party as an active party leader because she did not agree with the course of the party, former so-called Taistoans , orthodox pro-Soviet hardliners in the former SKDL , to get on the electoral lists of the left alliance. She remained a member of the Finnish parliament until 2007, but then withdrew from politics because, in her own opinion, it had not succeeded in transforming the left alliance into a modern European left party.

In the 2009 European elections she supported Risto Penttilä , a candidate for the National Collection Party .
