Suvorov Square
The Suvorov Square is in the Moscow district Meshchansky in the Central Administrative District located place. It is located at the intersection of Durowa, Dosstoewsskogo, Samotjochnaja and Seleznewskaya streets.
history
In the 12./13. In the 19th century, the village of Suschtschowo was built on the area of today's Suvorov Square. The Naprudnaja river (also called Samotjoka or Sinitschka), a tributary of the Neglinnaya river, ran across the square . In 1630, when Suschtschowo was already part of Moscow, the church of Ioann Woin was built there and the 13th century structure of Suschtschowo was largely demolished. This created the square, in the vicinity of which the manor house of Count AW Saltykov and his park was built. Since 1777 this has been used as a home for war invalids. In 1802 the house was redesigned by Domenico Gilardi and the Women's Institute of St. Catherine was opened there. The square was then called Ekatherininskaya , just as the park is still called Ekaterininski Park today . In the years 1826/27 a restoration was carried out by Gilardi and AG Grigoryev.
In 1917 Ekatherininskaya Square was renamed Platz-Kommuna in memory of the Paris Commune . Under Soviet rule, the church was demolished and the Naprudnaja in an underground pipe verdolt . New, monumentalist buildings in the style of socialist classicism were built , the ZDKA Hotel (today Hotel Slavyanka) (1947) and the Red Army Theater (1934–1940). A square was formed in the center of the square, which today bears the Suvorov monument.
Suvorov Monument
The location for the memorial was determined in 1950 in the middle of Suworow Square (at that time the commune square ) and marked with a stone sign. In 1980, the 250th birthday of Alexander Vasilyevich Suvorov , the Ministry of Culture of the USSR announced a competition for a better design of the Suvorov monument. The designs by the sculptor Oleg Konstantinowitsch Komow and the architect WA Nessterow were finally realized. The face of Suvorov was made by Komov from the death mask, as this was more detailed than the portrait. The face that the memorial shows most closely resembles the portrait that NM Avakumov created in 1939. The memorial was erected on February 14, 1982 and unveiled on February 17, 1982.
The statue shows Suvorov wearing a coat and a telescope in his hand and is around 4 m high. He always wore the Order of St. Anne , which was his first and favorite order. The statue stands on a cylindrical base made of red granite , which is also approximately 4 m high.
