Oleg Konstantinowitsch Komov

Oleg Konstantinowitsch Komow ( Олег Константинович Комов ; born July 16, 1932 in Moscow , USSR ; † September 3, 1994 in Moscow, Russia ) was a Soviet - Russian sculptor, graphic artist and teacher.

Life

Oleg Komov was born into the family of a construction worker in Moscow in 1932. He studied at the State Art School in honor of the Revolution of 1905 in Moscow from 1948 to 1953, then with Nikolai Tomski from 1953 to 1959 at the Russian Academy of Fine Arts ( Moscow Surikov Art School ).

From 1959 he was a member and from 1968 a member of the board of the Union of Soviet Artists , from 1962 a member of the CPSU . From 1988 Komow was a full member of the Academy of Art of the USSR and in its Presidium.

From 1988 Oleg Komov taught sculpture and graphics at the Moscow Surikov State Art School ( professor from 1992).

Numerous works of art in public spaces in the USSR originate from him, including the Erlauf peace monument in memory of the end of World War II (together with Jenny Holzer ).

Oleg Komov died in 1994 at the age of 62 and was buried in the Kunzewo Cemetery in Moscow.
