Suzanne Shepherd
Suzanne Shepherd is an American actress , director, and acting teacher. She is known to a wider audience in her roles as Karen's dominant mother in the movie Good Fellas - Three Decades in the Mafia and as Carmela Soprano's mother in the television series The Sopranos .
Shepherd studied acting with Sanford Meisner . She was a founding member of the cabaret revue Compass Players in the early 1960s, along with other actors such as Alan Alda and Alan Arkin . Shepherd has worked in the theater for a long time, both as an actress and as a director. She is known for her interpretations of the pieces by Athol Fugard .
